Certificate Program in English as a Second Language**
English as a Second Language is a continuing education program leading to a certificate. The program is intended for recent immigrants with employable skills and whose English language deficiency is the primary reason for not being able to be hired for work in the field. A graded series of courses takes the student from a basic beginner level to an advanced intermediate level, with an emphasis on survival skills and workplace language capabilities. The program will be both intensive and extensive (covering all skill areas: speaking, listening, reading, writing) taking advantage of integration of multiple modalities.
*Graduation Requirements: Students must complete a minimum of 42 credit-hours (720 hours) of required courses with a minimum 2.0 G.P.A.

Academic Programs
Enrollment in occupational Associate degree programs has been growing rapidly, faster than enrollment in all other higher education sectors, according to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is not surprising. The new economy calls for specialized skills beyond high school, but doesn't offer the time to travel the traditional path to a four-year degree. Increasingly, the choice is to enter the workforce quickly…and then continue one's education. The Associate in Occupational Studies degree - a two-year course of studies balancing job preparation and academic studies - is the new standard in professional work force preparation. Long Island Business Institute has been offering just such programs for over 34 years, specializing in business education, with hundreds of proud graduates pursuing their career goals today.
LIBI offers several degree and diploma programs, concentrating on the business and court reporting fields. Each of our popular business programs has three elements: computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet) + general education (college English, communications, psychology) + specialized studies in the program area.
Our Court Reporting focuses on speedbuilding, terminology and as well as general education.
Students can usually expect to complete an Associates Degree Program in 16 months and our Diploma Programs in 8 months
